24
hours of Inauguration moments.
It was still dark in our Nation's Capitol when the last
press release was faxed in Sacramento. The Left Coast had
checked in with Loud Citizen's Kevin Conner and recorded a
sound bite for uploading to the net. The mood was upbeat
and the spirit strong.
Alarm
clocks in California's capitol began buzzing... Phelp's
Hobart dialed up the Message Center just before 5 a.m. We
all knew the next dozen hours could be a roller coaster
ride. Bob McLaughlin arrived at the Center with his laptop
and web cam ready to work. A few others checked in by phone
with tasks they would do to contribute to the overall
effort.
There
were no pro Bush rallies scheduled here. We knew a protest
rally was forming on the West steps of the Capitol and it
was being monitored. Calls to assignment editors with gentle
reminders proved pointless at first. As soon as reports of a
handful of Inaugural protesters clashing with police in D.C.
aired nationally, the phones began to ring at the Center in
Sacramento. KOVR-13 the CBS affiliate here asked what we
were doing, why and requested an interview. Other news
editors were vague in their plans to provide us with equal
time.
Bob
Connor of
Bobnews.com arrived to report on Trust the People's
protest rally at the State Capitol. Veterans of political
favoritism towards the Left knew what that meant. Back to
the phones, the fax and e-mails. Before Bob left, we chatted
about the need to network and share resources. We're in full
agreement, the methods of the past have failed us... a new
direction and combining efforts is all that will save us
from Hillary Clinton and the liberal left. Bob will be
expanding his web site and hopes he's successful in getting
the message out.
Reporter
Ross Blackstone has covered us in the past, so we were
confident of a fair shake. But we also knew protesters from
the opposition camp garnered most of the news in our city.
The Conservative vigils of December pulled little attention
by the news people in Sacramento. Thousands of us were
reduced to "hundreds" and the message lost for all intensive
purposes. Even as this final report is being prepared,
thoughts of dwindling participation in message boards and
e-groups makes one ponder our future and resolve. Without
teamwork and nurturing, will the momentum be lost as the
opposition turns up the heat on our new president.
The
KOVR-13 News crew was here for about 20 minutes. Carolyn
had logged into the Inaugural chat room as Ross was viewing
the setup and asking about our mission. We dialed up a few
of the DC Loud Citizen cell phones without success, but Ross
was quick to pick up on what the goals were. The lone
response to the opposition aired on the 5:00p.m. and 11:00
p.m.
KOVR newscasts. A few words,
captured for memories sake, "We want to be witnesses
because we know it is not unusual for demonstrators to claim
police brutality." is all that remains of our bit part in
history.
Bob
McLaughlin was busy putting the Title Text into the second
web cam so visitors would know we taping with KOVR and that
KFBK-1530 Talk Radio was up next. Kevin was tracked down on
his cell phone as he headed to his hotel room for our next
media effort. We did what we could to spread the word and
phone numbers to call into the show. Right down to the wire
with dignitaries and luminaries joining Mark on the air from
Washington D.C. we jockeyed our two phone lines where we
needed ten, e-mailed to lists and took intervening calls.
Just before the end of the 2:30 network news feed, Mark gave
us the last half hour of the show.
Mark
Williams has done more to mobilize area conservative
than any other single person we can think of. He has been
generous in his featuring Community Watch on local issues,
many tied directly to the negative impact of Clinton's
Administration and policies on our city. We hope he'll
serve to remind us why so many conservatives marched on our
Capitol in December. Where we go from here depends on all of
you who take time to read this message. It's high time we
consider hosting a national chat room with guests like Mark
and the friends Kevin made in D.C. It's time to draw a line
in the sand and commit ourselves to plans of action and
unity of cause.
Setting
up the three-way call to Kevin and Mark proved challenging
and we don't relish next months phone bill. Thanks to Mark's
producers it went off without a hitch. Mark's a team player
all the way as evidenced by his interviews and chats with
Kevin Conner,
Dave Jenest and
Phelps Hobart and Marisa Peterson. Our thanks to all of
you who pitched in to make the effort. These moments too,
will be preserved for a time as will photos of our marches
and those of the Patriots of
January in Washington D.C.
Webmaster's Update: March 2004: Kevin and Loud
Citizen are long gone but what remains is a tribute to
Sacramento Area Conservatives. Phelps, Marisa, Carolyn, Bob
and Dave still network together. Nationally, the Sacramento
GWB Yahoo Group is the last active remnant of those days in
November and December 2000. The core group worked with Mark
Williams to produce Rally for America and as predicted, have
championed many efforts via talk radio and the Internet.
One popular website spawned from this group,
Patriotwatch.com.
Our Family Valentine's
Day Present: February 14, 2010.
From our hearts to yours: its been said old soldiers
never die, they just fade away.
Not so with these warriors:
Today
an email arrived from Loud Citizen Paul Klenk, The Lone
Rallyer of Times Square and the man who stood on the Supreme
Court steps armed with a bullhorn and led our troops in
song.
Today, this influential patriot rejoins our ranks with an
equally important mission you'll be hearing a lot about in
the weeks ahead. Yes, LoudCitizen lives, thrives and expands
in 2010. Thanks to not so old soldiers like Paul.
God bless you brother.
