Frontline on PBS
Pentagon said in
confidence: "It
is compelling stuff. It proves once again that it is our
Soldiers who are our best spokespeople. It is not
only courageous filmmaking (both figuratively and
literally, but it's also an example of very insightful
filmmaking."
PDN Webmaster: Gripping, heart wrenching, filled
with pride, humility as they cried for their men who
died while delivering America's greatest gift... the
gift of Freedom. Well done

Our ROOTS
They brought flags, support our veterans/troops banners
and sang along to military music.
Almost a year ago, two journalists were killed and one severely
injured by an IED in Iraq. Every media outlet in the country seemed to trip all
over themselves trying to tell the American people about these "brave
journalists". There were specials aired during prime time, full front page
articles on almost every national newspaper and most local papers. And in every
single article was this vague and nonspecific notation: "A U.S. soldier and an
Iraqi translator also died in the blast."

this site was expanded in the aftermath of 9-11-2001. It also afforded your
webmaster an opportunity to pay tribute to the father I never knew and 789
fellow sailors who perishing in America's most horrendous naval disaster at
sea, Typhoon Cobra on
18 December 1944. Sixty-two years later that story is unfolding in the pages
of Halsey's Typhoon.
“It
turns out the most deadly blow struck against the American Pacific Fleet in
World War II was not inflicted by the Japanese, but by Mother Nature. Drury
and Clavin tell a powerful and engrossing story of tragedy, survival, and
heroism that is a surprising snapshot of the extraordinary skill and
stubborn resolve of the Americans who prevailed in that conflict. They offer
a memorable, warts-and-all portrait of Admiral William ‘Bull’ Halsey. Briskly written and
carefully researched, Halsey’s Typhoon joins a rare shelf of must- read
books about the most important conflict of the twentieth century.” Mark Bowden, author of Black Hawk Down and
