Sacramento,

Last week the California
State Legislature proclaimed Saturday, May 22, 2004 as Yellow
Ribbon Day in Support of Military Families and our Troops (See:
http://www.patriotwatch.com/RESOLUTIONS.htm)
Monday evening, (Memorial Day) a very special 3 hour
broadcast will also stream on the internet worldwide. Start time
is 7:00PM (1900hours) Pacific Time. It will feature the sounds
and tributes to these families from that day and messages to
their loved ones serving our nation. It will air on 50,000 watt
KFBK 1350 AM that can be heard throughout the Western US,
Western Canada, Alaska and Northern Mexico. Like the Rally for
America PDN produced last year, even Navy ships were able to
open an internet connection and listen live or record for later
playback.
My specific request of your office is to help us pass the link
http://www.patriotwatch.com to this
uplifting program to as many families and military organizations
possible. Our own website's front page provides all the times,
links and help tools the prospective listener may need. Families
may also call into the host or post messages that may be read
live on the air for loved ones listening in. PDN has a long
standing relationship with Mr. Williams at KFBK and this Clear
Channel station is also sponsoring the Veterans Affiliated
Council's Memorial Day Parade at our State Capitol. I would like
to arrange interviews with your appropriate spokesperson(s) that
could be taped on Friday for replay during the broadcast or done
live that night with the host.
A single point of contact as other stations around the country
join this project would serve to expand your audience. Please
contact me at (916) 448-1636 or 730-9401 if you can assist us
with the special request.

The Military Affiliate Radio System (MARS) is a
Department of Defense (DoD)
sponsored program that combines the resources and talents of
military radio operators and volunteer radio operators of the US
Amateur Radio Service. Under the authority of
DoD
Directive 4605.2, each branch of the Armed Forces manages
and operates individual MARS programs in joint support of the
overall MARS program. The primary missions of MARS are:
To provide DoD-sponsored emergency communications on a
local, national, and international basis as an adjunct to
normal communications.
To provide auxiliary communications for military, civil,
and/or disaster officials during periods of emergency.
To assist in affecting normal communications under
emergency conditions.
To Handle quasi-official, official, and morale voice,
data, and message communications traffic for the Armed Forces
and authorized U.S. Government civilian personnel stationed
throughout the world.
Whether providing emergency communications for federal or
local authorities during natural disasters or relaying morale
messages from families to service members overseas, the 5000
volunteer men and women of MARS ensure that program will always
be proud, professional, and ready.
