"Why me?" he said softly puzzled.
"Why me?" he continued in obvious anguish.
What, I wondered, could be causing him such grief?
He was well-fed, clean and seemingly in good health.
He was surrounded by loving family and friends.
"
Why", he answered, "should I be standing here
in this day of God's sunshine and flowers?
My friend and I, we fought in the same war,
in the same battle,
in the same hellhole!"
"Today I am here.
My buddy is not"
"Why me?"
